Parliamentary Elections 2021 – Statement by the Chief Returning Officer,
Dr Costas Constantinou, on the turnout of voters until 5 p.m.

Despite the unprecedented conditions in which the current electoral process is taking place due to the pandemic, I have personally ascertained, through my visits to dozens of polling stations, that voting is progressing impeccably in accordance with the guidelines and in strict compliance with the health protocols.

I would, therefore, like to thank the voters for their good behavior, the employees and the unemployed graduates who man the polling stations, as well as the staff of the Returning Officers and the members of the Police for the professionalism and commitment they have demonstrated, responding to the task assigned to them.

I would also like to thank the representatives of the electoral combinations for closely cooperating with one another.

Lastly, I express special thanks to my associates at the Ministry of Interior and most importantly, to the Deputy Returning Officer, as well as the Returning Officers.

In less than 50 minutes this voting process will come to an end. I call on the voters who wish to exercise their right to vote, to go to the polling stations before 6.00 p.m., when voting ends.

Until 5.00 p.m. a total of 316,158 persons have voted, which corresponds to 56,7% of the total of registered voters.

It is noted that in the equivalent time during the Parliamentary Elections of 2016 the percentage of voters was 60%.
